Top 3 Web Design Mistakes You’re Making
Here are some of the top website design mistakes I see over and over again that are really hurting your credibility… AND how to fix them.
So let’s get right to it!
1. PIXELATED OR DISTORTED IMAGES
Images can make or break your website and one of the most common mistakes I see people make when they're DIYing their site is using low quality images.
Always make sure that the images you're using look beautiful on desktop as well as mobile, and that they don't look pixelated, blurry, or stretched out.
I *HIGHLY* recommend getting a professional brand photoshoot to have beautiful high quality images that are on brand.
If there's absolutely no way you can do a photoshoot and you need something for now, there are a lot of incredible paid and free stock image sites like Unsplash you can use for high quality photography.
That being said, make sure the images you use are still on brand.
2. NOT ENOUGH WHITESPACE
White space is everything! And it's a crucial part of designing your website.
You need white space to balance out everything else on your site, so you don't overwhelm your viewer with a site that has too many colors, patterns or graphics.
White space makes your website easier to read and navigate. So make sure you’re adding enough white space when designing your site.
3. USING HARD TO READ FONTS
I absolutely love adding script fonts to my designs + websites, not all script fonts are created equal, and some, while gorgeous, are absolutely ILLEGIBLE.
Do NOT have a font on your site that no one can read. It's distracting and it’s costing you credibility and sales.
Here's a little tip: If you're not sure if a font is easy to read have someone else read it. If they can't read it immediately without squinting DON'T use it (no matter how pretty).
If you're guilty of any these, making these simple tweaks will drastically improve your site!
Like always, if you have any questions leave them in the comments!
